The Water Campus, a research facility taking shape on the Mississippi River, next to downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana is designed to be a collaborative environment for sharing   resources and solving some of our planet’s most urgent problems. Its mission is “understanding of natural and human aspects of deltaic, coastal, and water systems; to develop tools that apply knowledge to restore coasts and ecosystems; and to reduce risk for people and infrastructure.”

The Water Institute of the Gulf building, now under construction on the Water Campus, will be approximately 35,000 square feet of co-op office space, Institute headquarters, and public conference space. Perched over the banks of the Mississippi River, the “Crown Jewel” of the Water Campus is an important reflection of the Campus’ mission. While the entire Water Campus is an urban infill project, it has a unique, environmentally sensitive site that includes wetlands and river levees.

A Hard Hat Tour with the design and construction teams will provide more than an inside look at the resiliency strategies that are at the core of the Water Institute project. We will also explore the partnership between the public, private, academic, and governmental stakeholders, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Approved for 1 AIA LU/HSW.
