A Word From Our Board

Looking back at 2022, USGBC Louisiana is getting back into the swing of things after a few slow pandemic years. Throughout the year, the Chapter ...
Hosted 3 webinars about sustainable and healthy materials.
Our annual FORWARD Symposium consisted of 3 in-person building tours of LEED and WELL projects, 1 in-person lecture about the state of Sustainability in Louisiana, and 5 online webinars about varying sustainable subjects.

2022 also hosted yet another year of our Green Schools Initiatives with a "green" selfie contest on Valentines Day and the Green Schools Challenge in the spring.

Our Chapter awarded 3 design awards this year in conjunction with the awards competitions hosted by AIA New Orleans, IIDA Delta Regional, and ASLA. We create a panel of judges to review the entries for the various competitions, and award our own Sustainability Award.

We can look forward to more events and initiatives in 2023! Let us know what you would like to see from USGBC Louisiana! [email protected]

Annual Sponsorship

USGBC Louisiana's Annual Sponsors are critical to the mission of transforming the built environment and making our state a healthier, greener place to live, work, and learn. Without your help we wouldn't be able to support our green professionals in Louisiana. By sponsoring you can align your company with the clear voice for green building in Louisiana. Sponsorship gives you the chance to engage our growing audience for sustainable products and services while supporting our education and advocacy efforts. Find out more or Sponsor here.

Sustainable Practices

It is that time of year to take down winter holiday decorations. If you have a Christmas tree to dispose of, consider looking for local eco-minded opportunities for your tree. Most larger cities in Louisiana offer curbside pick up for trees to be used to help wetland restoration. Check your local news or city trash services for details. Pick-up generally happens on your normal trash days, sometime between the 1st and the 15th of January.

Some areas have drop-off locations such as St. Tammany parish. Or there is the long-running Turtle Cove tree recycling program in Hammond run by Southeastern. http://www.southeastern.edu/acad_research/programs/turtle_cove/upcoming_events/index.html

In all cases, trees must be bare, unflocked, and un-tinseled.

National Green Schools conference comes to new orleans

Home

February 27 - March 1
The Green Schools Conference (GSC) is the only event to bring together all the players involved in making green schools a reality: people who lead, operate, build and teach in schools. Designed to educate, connect and inspire, attendees of the three-day in person conference will explore interdisciplinary content during general sessions, while also having dedicated time with peers to work through specific challenges, share best practices, and generate momentum to further green school actions across the country.  Find out more here.
